driving a wedge

Wedge sneakers. Unlikely combination, but I'm here to say I'm a fan.
I love the cool, comfortable vibe these give out, while still adding length to your legs and giving you some height.
Win-win in my book! I love them best with skinny jeans & a loose top.

Here are a few of my favorites.
I am saving up my cash for a pair of Ash ones this fall...

wedge sneakers
Isabel Marant leather shoes, $730 / Ash wedge shoes, $265 / Ash sneaker / Ash wedge shoes

What do you think, would you rock these? Or do you think I'm crazy? It's okay if you do, you wouldn't be the first.

I MADE SOMETHING I CAN WEAR!

Inspiration:
Big floral prints on skirts like this one from Banana Republic

Found:
Fabric at Savers for two dollars.

Made: with a pattern and about 5 hours of time (I'm slow & get nervous around patterns)

After:
(excuse the poor lighting)

It's a skirt! And it fits! And it didn't rip while I was at work!

I even put in a zipper! And it's mostly hidden!

I even made a pleat in the back on accident. I didn't even know that was part of the pattern!

So many exclamation points. But you guys, I'm pumped. I might not be the worst seamstress of all time after all! I can't wait to make more.

HERE WE GO

Ruched femme tank

I ordered this swimsuit last night as the first piece for my vacation to the Cayman Islands this summer. So cute, & I got a sweet deal since j.crew is offering an extra 30% off all their sale!
You need to check it out. Now!

PS. My mom is crying happy tears because this is a one-piece.

EXPERIMENTS WITH BLEACH

I was reading this post on Cotton & Curls about bleaching pants (by the way I LOVE her blog. So much talent!), and thought I'd do the same to some brown skinnies I hardly ever wore. I forgot to take a before picture, but here they are being showcased at a family BBQ. The fit was fine, but they were kind of a weird brown and hard to match.

I could use a pair of white skinnies!

As SOON as I put these dropped these puppies they turned tomato red. Not what I was expecting, but okay!
I could use a pair of red skinnies.
I left them in for about 7 minutes (per the instructions) and then threw them in the wash.

And they came out coral! Not what I was expecting...
but I could use a pair of coral skinnies.

And here they are on the flesh. I'm just going to come right out and tell you that I love how they turned out.
I have a feeling these pants are going to get a lot of air time this spring.

Just as Bob Ross would say, "No mistakes, just happy accidents." Well played, Mr. Ross.

WARDROBE REMIX

My closet is full, but I have nothing to wear. The classic sob story of almost every girl I know.

I am a lover of fashion. I could sit and analyze all of the ads in Vogue for hours (and I do).

I love buying clothes. They are new, crisp, vibrant, and feel like heaven on your skin compared to the raggedy sweater purchased over two weeks ago (who's with me?).

I have plans this summer. I'm going to Las Vegas, Grand Cayman Islands, and San Diego, to name a few.

I'm on a budget. In order to save the money I need to go on my vacations, I can't buy every perfectly draped blouse in sight.

So: With a full closet & summer schedule, but a much less packed wallet, I am bringing wardrobe remix to this blog.

I'll start documenting the outfits I come up with here, starting next Monday. Partly because it will be fun, mostly so I can publicly hold myself accountable. That's what blogging is all about right? (just kidding)

Time to dig deep.

MY IDEAL WINTER UNIFORM

... is comprised of all of the above. I love the basics so I can have more options with accessories and layers. Options are a girls best friend, am I right ladies? AM I RIGHT?

Sidenote:  I LOVE black jeggings/leggings, they go with everything.
Is it obvious I'm not over my love of gold watches yet? I think that Nixon( bottom right) actually might take the cake over the Michael Kors one I've been eyeing for a year.

mixing textures

I have New Years Eve on the brain. This would be the perfect outfit for my celebrations.. Comfortable without losing the wow factor. Now if somebody wants to buy me those $1200 pants for Christmas...

mixing textures

PS. Do you like my cheesy background & snowflakes? sometimes polyvore is too much fun.

Glamour

I randomly picked up Rachel Zoe 's book the library last week and flew through the pages. It was so much more than I was expecting.
Yes, there are tons of great tips about your wardrobe, but also injecting glamour to your own home and even your life.  She talks about putting your best foot forward all the time, no matter what.
It's about attitude and the confidence that comes when you invest in yourself & in everything that you do. Rachel lives by the mantra "The meaning of life is living it."

She talks about chasing your dreams, and not because of the money or status, but because you have so much passion about what you do.

"Dreaming is an absolutely required activity!"
-my favorite quote from the book

I would highly recommend this book.
Seriously uplifting and infused with inspiration that everyone can draw from!

to the max!

Isn't Pinterest the best? I just bought a black maxi skirt and wanted to get a few more ideas of how to wear it for the winter. These are a few of my favorites.

I put this outfit together tonight. I am really loving all the color mixing this season. What do you think?

A struggle and a victory.

So I went to Target to get some supplies for the new pad. PS. It's been really fun so far, thanks for asking!

I couldn't remember everything on my list so of course I wandered around aimlessly until I hit the shoe aisle.

There was a lone pair that mysteriously, miraculously, was my size & on sale. Say whaaat?

One look in the mirror and I said "feet, you look adorable!"

So the sandals came home with me, instead of all the other things I forgot to buy (bleach! food!).

... and come on, you have to agree. My one foot does look totes adorbs.

music + an outfit

friday night we went to see sarah's husband sing @ the local eatery slash wingers. he has a great voice and it was fun hanging out with friends.

and then...

sometimes i really like what i'm wearing and i want to share it with you. but with your unfortunate luck i don't have anyone on call to take the photos. so self portrait in mirror it is.

i love tan feet. i actually love feet in general. i think they're TOTES ADORBS. just like abbreviating all your words.

i am super cool!

in other news...

i start my new job tomorrow. i'm excited!

the time my photographer had the night off.

so i finally let frieda(my profesh photog of course) have the weekend off. it is so hard to follow me around all the time getting perfect photos of how glam/vintage/perfectly mismatched/disheveled i look. so i said "frieda, don't worry! i'll take it from here."
...
first couple are pretty norm.

i took these because i was really excited about my vintage/thrifted ralph lauren blazer that i altered myself.

annnnd, we're good right?

wrong.
so wrong.

... turns out self timer is pretty much the best thing ever invented.

watch out, a little ham and eggs (couture style) comin' atcha!

then it went mobile. to the kitchen!

things had to stop when the scissors came out.

ha. i was totally drunk on the self-timer.
phew. thank goodness for frieda!

I guess not everyone is as excited about my boots as I am. The nerve!

My brothers teased me(as they were becoming one with the couch) about my "irrigation boots" and that I could go to Smith & Edwards to get a pair for $20. Better, yet, why don't I just borrow some from my Grandpa! Some people just don't understand FA-FA-FA-FASHION... :)

Yesterday was a blustery day at the ole office and I was donning my boots, feet toasty & dry, safe from the elements. The mail man walks in wearing one of those plastic safari hats. He takes one look at my boots and asks, "Are you wearing those for real?"

"Are you wearing that hat for real?"

...."Good point. See you tomorrow."

Must I go through life defending the beauty of the boots to plastic-safari-hat-wearers and brothers who wear Jordan basketball shorts year round? I contend that I must not.

ACK! As I was pressing publish on this post, safari-hat-mailman walked right in. I almost had a heart attack! Must he defend the beauty of his hat to expensive-rubber-galosh-wearers?

I contend that he must.

friday afternoon delight

1. lime ricky from sonic

2. a special delivery from UPS

i am a huge believer in the goal/rewards system- AKA how i justify my purchases. i was talking to my mom the other night and told her about these boots, and she said "where do you come from? I will do alot for a snickers bar". I replied, "mom, i pretty much deserve a snickers bar just for getting of bed in the morning."
THINK BIGGER PEOPLE.
3. when i drove into work this morning, i noticed a lone pansy flower in the midst of the spring tulips. it reminded me of this story:
brother taylor called brother nathan a pansy(which is a totally outdated insult, but whatever). nathan was visibly upset and ran to tell mom about it. in an attempt to console nate, with her arm around him, she said in very serious tone, "well, pansies are the strongest flower!" sitting in the same room, i chimed in "but, you're still a flower."
happy friday friends!
